Bill Bergey – My Favorite Eagle

Bill Bergey

Bill Bergey was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 1974 season after spending 5 seasons with the Bengals.   Long story short, he signed to play with the World Football League's Florida Blazers; it was a future's contract, it never happened, ended up dealt to Philly.  I would argue that he was the catalyst for the rise of the Eagles from 1978 - 1980.

The image on the left was my first introduction to Mr. Bergey.  My first All-Pro card, or at least the first one to make an impression.  The Topps,  1979 Bill Bergey.  This guy was a wrecking crew.  Finished his career with 27 interceptions and 21 fumble recoveries.  5 time All-Pro, 2 time First Team All Pro.
